Tried and true family tips on storing and
using fresh produce

Storing Lettuce

  • For quick use, place the roots in a glass of water on your kitchen bench, pulling off leaves as needed, Alternatively to keep the lettuce a little crisper , cut off the root system and cut out the stem and place the leaves in a freezer bag, storing them in your fridge’s crisper drawer.

  • Minimal washing is needed with our lettuce because we use integrated pest management to reduce the need for chemicals.

  • Lettuce with a root ball can continue to grow if placed in a cool spot with fresh water. We recommend changing the water every 1 to 2 days.

Storing Basil

  • Basil thrives in sunlight and warmth, so avoid storing it in the fridge. Keep basil with a root ball on your windowsill in a glass of water and change the water every, one -two days for freshness.

  • Fresh basil adds great flavour to Italian dishes like pasta sauces and pizzas. For extra flavour, add basil leaves directly to the jar of sauce or during cooking.

  • Basil can last an extra 4–5 days when stored in water. For long-term storage, remove the leaves from the stem, place them in a freezer bag, and store them in the freezer.
