Adelaide Hydro Fresh is a family-run farm nestled in Virginia, South Australia, that’s been delivering fresh, high-quality produce for nearly 40 years. From our pioneering hydroponic methods to our passion for providing local families with the best greens, our farm is built on tradition, hard work, and a commitment to excellence.

Our Story

Today, we operate across two properties, expanding from our original farm in Virginia to a larger facility on Mcgee Road. With more than 20 acres of hydroponic systems with 50 percent greenhouses, we now produce a wide variety of premium lettuces and herbs, including basil. Together with me (Mark) and my brother Paul, we’ve continued to expand the business with modern systems and sustainable farming practices, all while staying true to the traditions and values our parents established nearly 50 years ago.

Our commitment to quality, sustainability, and family remains at the heart of everything we do. Every product we grow is fresh, healthy, and cultivated with the same care that started with my parents’ vision.

Founded in 1985 by our parents, Angelo and Gianna Russo, Adelaide Hydro Fresh was the first farm in South Australia to grow lettuce hydroponically.

What began as a small operation, growing potatoes, onions, and ground-grown lettuce, has evolved into a thriving family business that spans multiple generations. In the mid 80’s, we made a bold move into hydroponics, pioneering this innovative farming method in South Australia. With the support of key partners like Woolworths, our business grew, allowing us to push boundaries in how we farm.
